Failed to post to Google My Business location: permission denied; not authorized

Unable to Post to Your Google Business Location?

If you receive an email alert that says "Creating or updating a local post is not authorized for this location" with a status of PERMISSION_DENIED, it means your post was not published to Google My Business. This error comes directly from Google and indicates that the connected account does not have the necessary permissions to post to the selected location.

The good news is that this is usually a straightforward fix. Follow the steps below to resolve it.

How to Fix the "Permission Denied" Error

Step 1: Log into the Google Account Connected to Eclincher

Make sure you are signed into the same Google account that is linked to your Eclincher profile.

Step 2: Go to Google Business

Visit business.google.com and open your Google Business profile.

Step 3: Check Your Posting Options

Look for the Add Update button or Create Post icon on your Google My Business page. This will look slightly different depending on whether you manage a single business or multiple locations:

  1. Look for the Add Update button or Create Post icon on your Google My Business page. This will look slightly different depending on whether you manage a single business or multiple locations:
  • Single business account: The Add Update button will appear on your main business profile page.

(Single Business)

  • Multiple business accounts: The Create Post option will be available within each individual location.

(Multiple Business)

Step 4: Adjust Your Permissions if Needed

If the Create Post option is not available, your account role may not include posting access. Make sure your Google My Business role is one of the following, as these are the only roles that have permission to create posts:

  • Primary Owner
  • Owner
  • Manager
  • Communications Manager

If your role is not one of the above, you will need to request a role update from the account owner.

Step 5: Verify Permissions Across All Locations:

  • If you manage multiple business locations, repeat Step 3 for each location to make sure posting access is enabled across all of them.

Step 6: Renew the Google Business Token in Eclincher

Once your permissions are confirmed, refresh the connection between Google Business and Eclincher by following these steps:

  1. Go to Manage Accounts from the left-side menu in your Eclincher dashboard.
  2. Find your Google Business account, click the three vertical dots, and select Renew Token.
  3. After renewing the token, click Update All Pages to apply the changes.

Step 7: Test Your Post

Try publishing to your Google Business location through Eclincher again. If your permissions were updated correctly, the post should go through without any issues.

Still Seeing the Error?

If the issue persists after following all the steps above, there may be an additional permissions setting within your Google account that needs to be adjusted. Our Support Team is happy to help you work through it. Feel free to reach out anytime and we will take a closer look.
