How to use or find popular hashtags, mentions and tags

Supported networks: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter

In this article, we will cover the following topics:
How to find most popular hashtags “#” for Twitter and Instagram
How to Tag people and location in Instagram (image)
How to quickly find and properly mention “@” people/brands in Instagram (profile), Facebook (pages), Twitter (account) and LinkedIn (business page)

Hashtags

Recently used hashtags

If you used hashtags in your first or recent posts, the platform will keep these stored and next time you post, once you start typing a hashtag, a list of the latest hashtags you used will appear as a suggested hashtag in the post editor.

For Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, the platform shows your most recently used hashtags:

Suggested hashtags (Instagram & Twitter)

For Instagram and Twitter, once you start creating a post, the platform will offer the "Suggested Hashtags" button for you to quickly search for the Most Popular Hashtags related to your search. Simply click the "Suggested Hashtags" button.

A pop up will appear where you will be able to search for the top hashtags (no need to insert “3”, just the term you are looking for) and add them to your post by clicking the "Insert hashtag(s) button" after selecting the hashtags. You can also add these selected hashtags to your Saved Hashtags for future use.

Please note: Instagram limits the number of Hashtags queries, as defined by Instagram: “you can query a maximum of 30 unique hashtags within a 7 day period.” What does “unique” mean: 30 different hashtags, i.e. you can search the same term (e.g. “peace”) many times with no limitation.

Mentioning / Tagging

You can mention/tag an account directly from e-clincher. Below is how you can tag or mention per social platform.

INSTAGRAM

Mentioning People

Instagram has removed the ability to show suggested mentions in Instagram. However, you can still mention a profile by simply typing "@ + the correct account name" as long as the mentioned user is set as public. If the user is set to private, then the post will fail to publish. We also show the "Recent Mentions" if you're trying to mention accounts that you've already used in your previous posts.

The mention may not be highlighted in the text editor, but upon publishing, you will see that it has properly mentioned the user.

Tag People (in an image)

You can also tag the people (account) in the image itself. Upon creating the post, you will see the "Tag People" button.

Once you click the "Tag People" button, a pop-up will appear.

Simply type the correct Instagram account name, click "Add" and set the button as to where you'd like the tag to be placed. Then, click "OK".

Make sure to type the correct username. If you do not type the correct name, you will receive a warning message saying "Username was not recognized on Instagram".

You will see that the "Tag People" button will be highlighted in green to signify that you have tagged an account in this post.

Tag Location

Aside from tagging people, you can also add a location tag to your Instagram post.

Simply click the "Add Location" if you want to tag a location in your post.

Upon clicking the "Add Location" button, a pop-up will appear. Simply type the location and a series of suggestions will appear. Once you've chosen the location, click "OK".

After adding a location, you will see that the "Add Location" button is already highlighted in green to signify that you've added a location to this post.

TWITTER, FACEBOOK, AND LINKEDIN

If you would like to “mention” a person or a business in Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn (i.e. profile, page or account) you need to choose the target mention from a drop-down list. Same logic and functionality work here in e-clincher.

For Twitter, we display “Suggested Mentions” from the Twitter API. You may select one or more mentions and add it to your tweet.

For Facebook, we display the “Suggested Mentions” from the Facebook API. In addition to selecting mentions, you can also choose whether you'd like to search for pages or places. There are some limitations to this which are listed below;

Mentioning FB users is not possible (FB API Limitation)
If you use a Personal Profile to post to Facebook groups, the mention will not work. (FB API Limitation). but if you post as a Facebook Page to Facebook Groups, mentions will work fine.

For LinkedIn, we display the “Suggested Mentions” from the LinkedIn API. Please note that you can only mention LinkedIn Company Pages.

Please note: when selecting multiple networks in the post editor (i.e. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) the search feature for “mentions” will only populate the “mentions” from one of the platforms, and the priority goes to Twitter. Therefore, if you need to mention in your posts, it is recommended to create separate posts per social network.
